Quick answer: UK visa sponsorship jobs are roles where a Home Office licensed employer offers you a job and a certificate of sponsorship. To find genuine ones, check that the employer is on the official register of licensed sponsors. Then check that the job and salary meet the Skilled Worker rules, and never pay anyone for a job offer.
This guide explains how UK visa sponsorship jobs work, where to find them and how to spot fake offers.

How UK visa sponsorship jobs work
Most people from outside the UK need a sponsor to work there. A sponsor is an employer that holds a licence from the Home Office. When it hires you, it gives you a certificate of sponsorship with a reference number. After that, you use that number to apply for your visa.
The main routes are:
- Skilled Worker visa: first, this covers eligible jobs with any licensed employer.
- Health and Care Worker visa: second, this covers eligible roles with the NHS, NHS suppliers or adult social care.
Which jobs qualify for UK visa sponsorship?
First, the job must be on the list of eligible occupations. Second, the pay must meet the salary rule. For most Skilled Worker jobs, that means £41,700 (forty-one thousand, seven hundred pounds) a year or the going rate for the job, whichever is higher.
Some people can qualify on less. For example, new entrants, people with a relevant PhD and jobs on the immigration salary list can start from £33,400 (thirty-three thousand, four hundred pounds). For details, read our guide to the Skilled Worker visa salary threshold.
Care work is different. Care worker and senior care worker roles can no longer be used for a first application from overseas. So treat any new overseas care job offer with caution, and read our Health and Care Worker visa guide first.

Where to find UK visa sponsorship jobs
- Start with the register. The Home Office publishes a register of licensed sponsors as a CSV file. For example, it lists every licensed employer, its town and the routes it can sponsor.
- Then visit employer career pages. Pick firms on the register in your field, and apply on their own websites.
- Use official job boards. For example, NHS roles appear on NHS Jobs, and the GOV.UK Find a job service lists vacancies across the UK.
- Finally, ask before you apply. Many adverts state whether the employer can sponsor. If not, ask the recruiter directly.
How to check an employer is a genuine sponsor
Open the register of licensed sponsors and search for the company’s registered name. Next, confirm that its entry includes Skilled Worker, or the route your job needs. Because UK Visas and Immigration updates the file often, check it again before you accept an offer.
If the employer is not listed, it cannot sponsor you yet. However, it can apply for a licence if it is eligible.
Red flags in UK visa sponsorship job offers
The Home Office is clear that the employer must pay the immigration skills charge itself. In fact, an employer can lose its licence if it asks a sponsored worker to pay this fee or any costs linked to its application. So watch for these warning signs:
- You are asked to pay for a job offer or a certificate of sponsorship.
- Also, the employer is not on the register of licensed sponsors.
- The offer arrives without an interview or a written contract.
- The salary is far below £41,700 with no clear reason why a lower rate applies.
- Someone promises a “guaranteed visa”. Only the Home Office decides.
From job offer to visa: the steps
- Get a written job offer from a licensed sponsor.
- Next, receive your certificate of sponsorship reference number.
- After that, apply for your visa within 3 months of getting it.
- Then pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, if it applies.
From outside the UK, the Skilled Worker fee is £819 for up to 3 years or £1,618 for longer stays. Health and Care Worker fees are lower, at £324 or £628.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get UK visa sponsorship jobs without experience?
Yes, in some cases. Recent graduates and people under 26 can qualify as new entrants on a lower salary. However, the job itself must still be eligible.
Do UK employers charge for sponsorship?
No. A genuine sponsor pays the immigration skills charge and its own licence costs. If anyone asks you to pay for sponsorship, treat it as a scam.
Can I get jobs in the UK with visa sponsorship from Nigeria, Ghana, India or Pakistan?
Yes. The Skilled Worker rules are the same wherever you apply from. You need an eligible job, a licensed sponsor, the right salary and proof of English, unless you are exempt.
Are care assistant jobs with visa sponsorship in the UK still open?
Not for new overseas applicants. Care worker and senior care worker roles can no longer be used for a first application from outside the UK. So be careful with any offer that says otherwise.
Can I switch from a Student or Graduate visa to a sponsored job?
Yes. In fact, many people switch to the Skilled Worker visa from inside the UK. See our guide to the Graduate Route visa for timing.
